Custom steering wheel

I'm working on steampunking the interior of my
miata. I'd like a ship's wheel instead of a steering
wheel. Any ideas on where I could have one made
or what kind of parts I would need to create
something myself?

That would be great in an accident. No air bag and spikes to impale yourself on.

Well, as great as it would be in an accident, I'm really only planning on making it a showcar, so I would remove it for on-the-road driving. Lots of custom wheels don't have airbags, so I don't really see the issue there, but thanks for the feedback.
