I have been charged with getting a 98 camaro z28 convertible that has been sitting forapprox 5yrs to run again. i have put new fuel with ingector cleaner in it and have used some stater fluid to try to get it to run. it will run for some seconds then it slowly dies. any ideas why?

running for a few seconds then dying does sound like a fuel problem- while sitting for a long time,the gas has degraded- some people call it "varnish" maybe because that's the way old gas smells- and the moisture in a tank will corrode the inner lining of a tank (rust)- both these things will clog injectors- and fuel pumps- and gas lines- and fuel filters- the best way to deal with an improperly stored car is to FIRST pull and clean the tank- if minimal rust, it can THEN be filled with clean gas- but just taking the car and trying to start it pulls all this gunk up from the tank and spreads it thru the whole fuel system- yikes- at this point, I would pull the tank, clean it, check for rust, (if there's rust, just buy a new tank) reinstall, buy a new fuel pump and fuel filter- put a few gallons of clean fuel in- AND- if you get lucky, those injectors might clear up and fire that bad boy off- hope so- injectors are expensive- if there is some other problem keeping the engine from firing this is not wasted work- it had to be done anyway
