1998 chevy no cranking takes place.

Asked by Phil Dec 27, 2015 at 09:01 AM about the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

turn the key to ON position. all seems ok. Turn the key to start and no
cranking takes place. Changed the battery and got the same results. had a
local mechanic look at it and his quick diagnosis was a faulty ignition
switch. i replaced the switch and still nothing. in cranking position of the
key, the dashboard goes crazy and then dead. when you put the key back,
the clock and everything resets as if the battery had been disconnected.
what do I check next?

Clean the battery terminals and cable ends and make sure they are tight.

Has anyone figured out why this is happening? It seems to be quite common, and I have the same issue.
