How reliable are the W8's 2004 model?

Asked by Glyn Feb 22, 2012 at 03:43 AM about the 2004 Volkswagen Passat W8 Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all. I'm looking at buying a 2004 W8 with 70k km's on the clock. It's in very good physical
condition. I like the look and feel of the car but want to know about it's reliability....or the
suggested LACK thereof.... Comments???

I have a sedan version W8 from 2004 if that would be helpful. I have always liked the car. I bought it new with the sports package including the 6speed stick. I have never had a problem with the car and other than scheduled services it stays out of the shop. Currently there are 72,000 miles on it. It is a great highway cruiser, has some sporting capabilities. Gets 16 to 21 miles of premium required gas to the gallon. Just purchased used a 2010 passat wagon which I really love driving for my wife. Funny I have always liked my W8 but, I like the 2010 with the DSG transmission more. Hope that helps.
