HOW DOES TRANSMISSION FLUID GET IN THE ENGINE

The only path I can think of would be through the radiator. You would need to have a transmission fluid leak into the radiator and then a head gasket leak that leaked the contaminated coolant into the engine. Do you have white smoke coming from the exhaust?

The likely scenario would be for some goof to put transmission oil into the engine accidentally.

Well you ruled out any way but my second post. Why do you think trans oil is in your engine?
