Hood

Asked by Missy Apr 30, 2019 at 12:02 PM about the 2001 Volkswagen Passat GLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 va passat and my hood release is broken,
went under the car, can't find the release,  can't take bumper
off because you have to have the hood up, is there a
release in the trunk of the car? Some one please help!
Thanks
Missy

This just happened with my 03 the other day as I have been dealing with a dying battery. Found the answer on YouTube. Do NOT remove grill or bumper. Unnecessary. Simply lift the hood as high as you can, slide your hand in flat, then push down on hood slightly. Then move hood latch towards drivers side fender and lift. Then if you want, you may replace broken plastic piece (under hood) with a stiff wire. Attach it to the hood latch release mechanism.
