Is it worth spending all kinds of money to fix evaporation leaks on VW bugs? Is it harmful to just drive like that? It is a 1998.

Small evap leaks can be tricky to find. Sounds like your not to concerned as long as its not harmful. You won't harm your car. The only thing is you won't know if a new problem pops up because the light is already on. You can periodically check your codes to see. Me personally I hate that light on, but sometimes you have no choice. Some places to look are gas cap, rusty gas tank (hole) rusty filler neck, vacuum line leaks, low engine vacuum.
