While I can understand wanting a manual instead of an automatic, I actually think the 2.5L engine is superior to the 1.8t in terms of reliability and performance potential. With a 1.8t swap, you're not just talking mechanicals but electricals (brains) as well...getting a MK4 harness to mate to a MK6 chassis and dash would be a daunting task on a grand scale. Aftermarket performance shops like Integrated Engineering are doing great things for the 2.5L. I recommend looking at those options before tackling the "Transplant of the Century".

basicly what the other guy said. If you do an engine swap with such a latter model car it won't work due to electronic updates. You would literately have to pull all the wiring harness and electronics with the engine and that would be a waste of time because they would not fit in the newer jetta regardless. Compatible models would be some where around 2004 -2006 any old then 2001-1996 are 100% not compatible.

Thanks for the answers guys. It helps alot. You see i have a 2006 jetta 2.5l and even thou i take care of the engine and trans. I also put alot of stress on it going to work. I drive 30 miles one way up a 55° hill every day. So i was thinking of building an engine and swapping it out in a bout a year or so. And also making it a stick. And make it a track car. Of course that is when i buy myself another car to drive on a day by day basis

But going home is a breeze, right? Remember, the 2.5 is essentially half a Lambo V10. Turbo and a six-speed transmission will awaken the beast inside there.
