Starter or wiring problems

When I bolted up new starter, I realized the small ignition wire got pinched up
between the frame and starter. Now when I turn over ignition I get nothing.   I
don’t even hear a click, the interior lights come on but no lights on dash come
on.  I even put old starter back on and it does the  same thing    I thought I
would take some 12 gauge wire and try to run new, how can ii fix this ?  Any
suggestions would be appreciated
