How do I get the radio to "safe" mode?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had the battery replaced in my 2003 Jetta, and the radio is stuck on 88.3 FM.  I have the code but cannot get into safe mode to enter it.  How do I get to safe mode???

Hi apassehl, Try to press and hold the SEEK and SCAN buttons simultaneosly until "1000" lights up in the display. Then use the station buttons 1 to 4 to input your code. 1 to input the first digit, 2 to input the second, and so on. After the code is entered, press and hold the SEEK and SCAN buttons again until "SAFE" reappears. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I've tried that as well as removing the fuse and nothing has worked! Tonight I will try disconnecting the battery to see if that resets the radio... I'll try your method once more though and will report back with what works.

I have a similar problem I can't get the display to read 1000 I have a 2003 Jetta gli .

My way is much simpler, but it does cost a bit. I had the same damn problem, so I went to CarTunes and had a Double DIN stereo installed with backup camera. Haven't had the problem since lol

Does anyone know how to get the radio turned on? The stock one wouldn’t turn on at all so I put an aftermarket one in and it won’t either. No fuses are blown and no wires are showing for it to short out. Please help
