replaced ignition car still won't start

Asked by Diana Feb 18, 2014 at 11:12 AM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2001 vw jetta VR6. Someone had tired to steal it and busted the ignition. I
bought a new ignition and installed it but I can't get the security system to reset. I don't
have any of the original keys. Any suggestions?

The original keys would have a transponder chip within the plastic end, the new keys will have to be 'synchronised to the alarm/immobiliser system on the car. Also check that the pick up ring is still present, this will be found on the ignition barrel surround. It is usually a plastic ring with wires coming out of a multi-plug connector.
