New manual transmission 160k no reverse

Asked by GuruZSJ3W Nov 04, 2017 at 09:06 PM about the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just switched out my old manual transmission cv axle
busted off an broke into the case while driving home.
Anywho, the shifter will not go into reverse. I want to say it
is my tower at the transmission which will not engage at
all. Also I feel like when I placed the transmission back in
the gears are mixed up. For ex: the 3rd seems more like
1st gear to me.

Hey Tom, I have already replaced the old cv axle on driver side. Had to also replace transmission with one that has 160k on it. Found out it was loose from previous owner. Only had 5/6 bolts on and where hand tight on both driver and passenger side. I believe it may be a linkage issue. As I was driving today and it didn’t feel like I was even hitting first gear at all just 3 then 4 and second. I have a lot of play in my shifter as well.
