what is the candlelight stick on dash

on my 1999 jetta a candlelight looking red thing comes on when i start the car and it
blinks then when i drive it stops

well if it's an exclamation point~ This is the anti-slip regulation system which improves the car's traction on slippery surfaces. It goes on if the ASR system is triggered by slick roads. It also stays lit if there is a problem with the system.
