97 Jetta GL, 5 speed 2.0 over heating

The water pump, thermastat, radiator and radiator cap have been changed, still over heating. oil light comes on once it gets to hot, temp gauge stays in the middle around 230*, replaced sensor in rad, also one of the 2 in goose neck, temp light comes on most times with in a few secs to minutes, little to no heat out of vents, I assume temp light is a bad sensor somewhere, I have tried filling system cold, allowing bubble to come up thru,not thrilled with resavoir system, seems like air is going to get trapped. also when it over heated, top hose was not swollen and scalding, sensor in rad not hot, fans also do not come on unless bypassed to stay on when key is on, help please, and thank you.

You say the temp gauge stays in the middle...that would be normal at running temperature. Perhaps posting a pic of the instrument cluster would help to see all the indicators. Also, you mentioned the fan doesn't come on unless jumpered. Might be a good idea to replace the fan thermoswitch witch is also mounted in the radiator. Also, the heater control switch (manually actuated?) may need a look-see.

Where in the radiator is the fan thermoswitch located? i already replaced the one on the driver side about 1/2 way down
