Was thinking about buying my suspension parts at a junk yard... How would I go about testing the shocks and coils to make sure they are decent? The car I'm looking is sitting on the brake drums

The is really no fool proof way to see if they are good, as far as shocks, if there is fluid on the shock then they are bad. For the price of a new shock I would go ahead and just buy it new. Springs, Unless you know the specs for the height on a new spring there is no way you are going to know.

Buy new parts as salvage suspension parts may or may not be usable.

http://www.primechoiceautoparts.ca has shocks 30$ a piece. www.rockauto.com has them for 65-200$ entire strut assembles.
