temperature warning light came on

car said stop,temperature went to top and said engine coolant after checking coolant found it to be correct level

Could be as simple as an air bubble in the system, or a failed coolant temp sensor. Have the system pressure checked as soon as possible. You may even just need a new radiator cap. But you may have larger problems and you'd do best not to drive it with the chance of overheating it.
