Question type: General

Car suddenly was hard to start , but barely idled (rough ) . once underway it would run sort of ok. Had it checked on computer analyzer ...showed 5 codes ...cam corrolation / misfire . Have to run in 3rd gear to keep RPM's up . otherwise , barely 45 mph and shakes like crazy .  Timing chain tensioner ?  Fuel pressure regulator ?

Ok, found out the timing chain tensioner is either broken or bent. To fix it is about 18-20 hr. labor ...engine -trans have to come out . $3500-$ 4000.00 . Car has been sold "as is" .

feel free to call a vw/audi dealer (next time) and ask to speak to a trained tech.. run it by him, then ask if he'd be interested as a side job, in my Audi (2.8) using original manufacturing equipment, I changed my water pump, timing belt, tensioner and pulley for like $300. (labor myself) and took 1 day.. but i and many friends do side work....just a thought
