Are these issues related

My 2002 VW Cabrio runs fine but the Crankshaft pos sens.  was recently replaced.  When the vehicle is started cold it runs normally but when the high idle kicks down after a minute or so the engine looses a great deal of power although it continues to run fine.
Also, the check engine light is constantly on and the code gives a camshaft pos sens. issue being "primary input" possible causes: short circuit, open circuit or engine condition.  The engine is fine so thats a rule out.
Your thoughts please
