Comman issues of dieing while driving with vws is either a miss fire or fuel related issue. Turn your key forward and listen for your fuel pump. If you don't hear it your pumps done in. If you have not had your filter changed recently in the last year and you been pumping low quality gas in your car change the fuel filter. This are the comman gas related issues. Everything after that is either a vacum line broke or the maf is dirty, also spark plugs or coil pack could have gone bad

Lots of possibilities. Ignition wires should be assuredly connected to their terminals from the spark plugs to the distributor, as well as the center wite from the distributor to the ignition coil. Fuel pump relay could be blown, accessible under the driver left dashboard. Vacuum hoses (small grayish tubes throughout the engine on the lefthad side, should be checked. If one looks frayed, cut it off clean and stick it back on its connector.
