AC Not working in 95 VW Cabrio

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The button lights up when on, doesn't matter what fan setting it's on though I
don't get any cool air. Already checked fuses. I don't hear it try to kick on at
all though, any other car I've had I could hear it running. I know I don't have
the money to take it to a shop right now, so I'm wondering what order I
should go to diagnose the issue and try to fix it myself. I have some
experience with vehicle work but I've never done anything more than a
recharge on an AC system.

Will note, everything else in the vehicle is working as it should with the exception of an ABS issue. It isn't running hot, fans are working, etc. It's just the AC. ABS I may or may not play with, haven't decided.
