How much oil was in it when you left the dealership? Check your level every 1000 miles.

they may not have put in the entire recommended amount of oil when they did the oil change, that has been known to happen when techs get in a big hurry.

It could be something like worn rings if it has been using oil for a long time. There may be a oil leak or something failed if it started suddenly.

You may want to ask the dealership how much oil the enigne should use and be considered normal. A porsche came in the other day and it is allowed 1qt every 1000 miles and is considered normal.

new model jeep wranglers drink oil you have to constantly check it. some engines dont consume any but alot do and the manufacturers come up with stupid specs to be considered normal like 1qt every 1k miles. If they didnt do that they would be putting lots of motors in for free.

Some six cilinder bmw engines came with a problem that consumed excessive oil. Ask the dealer to be sure you don't have one of those engines. There is an recall try to get than info maybe it's on the internet

My car is x5 2012...i always have same proplem(oil minimum level)and also I have another proplem low coolant...i got bore from this car...I dont recommend it..the dealer always try ti scape from answering

My new ( to me) 2007 X5 is running a quart every 2500 with 115k miles on it. It has run synthetic oil since new. Engines running synthetic from new do not wear in much and it can cause a lot of blowby. At Cummins we would run engines in the test cells with a greening oil to let everything shape out before using the synthetic. This may be why these high end engines use a lot of oil. With a 15k oil drain interval I'm happy to be adding fresh additive package regularly. It's expensive and a pain in the ass but it'll last forever this way.
