How do you reset the "service 4WD light" & the "change engine oil light"

I've heard that if you turn the car on, but don't start it up, and rapidly push in the gas pedal 5 times it will reset the lights. Or maybe it was the brake pedal. Try both.

To reset the Change Oil light turn the ignition on but do not start and then push the gas pedal 3 times. The Service 4WD light is most likely the 4WD switch on the dashboard. If the lights are acting funny then the switch needs to be replaced. There is a quick fix for it though. It is most likely that the soldered connections on the board have microscopic cracks. What you do is get a soldering iron and resolder all the joints on the board by just heating it up. GM had used a different type of solder which caused it to corrode. I have fixed mine twice without having to buy a new switch.

Carolyn, got a 2002 Sierra 2500, speedo sensor wire grd'd, broken at entrance to plastic clip. Truck defaulted to limp mode. Owner pulled tranny had some fake work done, reinstalled, still only has 1st gear. I repaired both speed sensor plugin's, front & rear the speedo. On dash blinking 4whl on pushpad. Push for 2whl & no sound from encoder motor. Pull e-motor, someone years before worked on it, silicone seal black shows. Automatic trans fluid drips out of the e-motor gear case. Pull it apart, clean it & motor is full of AT-fluid. Cooties! Spray WalMart cheepie brake cleaner into rear edge hole on motor then use compressed air. Have rag around the motor as scads of AT-fluid flushing blows out. Used half a compressed can of B-fluid. Tested motor using the original plugin to a battery, works both ways, Winner! Start at your vehicle year with encoder motor & study to save $$$$. The selection switch that is screwed to the case of the e-motor had been apart before from the WHITE silicone seal, ha ha. Pried apart & their are no metal electrical contacts but a change in magnetic force on some type of chip sensors signals from & to the TCCM on choice of the correct movement arc on the transfer case to be 2 to N to Hi to Low shifting. The e-motor selection switch also had a copious amount of AT fluid in it to clean out. I am signing up to Chevroletforum dot c to post pics of this. Seeing the magnet setup helped my mind understand the TCCM & this is the KICKER stable datum. The 4 wheel software has to be rebooted to clean with the e-motor sensor at the position of the T-case in N. So, all error codes have to be deleted BEFORE the system can actuate normally. Corrosion at connective junctures including the grounds have to be within a particular resistance level, so clean out slide connectors & use of dielectric, sparingly, is good maintenance, but correct me if I err on that. Hope this assists others in seeing the problem more clearing to posit or intuit a good solution to 4 wheeling in fine style.

HOW MUCH DOES SETTING THE 4WD NOT UNVAILABLE COST. CAN ANY SERVICE MACANIC DO THE JOB.

If the 4x4 does not shift it is most likely to be the motor on the transfer case. If this motor does not work the module reverts to the last selection made on the switch.
