check engine light

Asked by GuruC875Q Mar 01, 2019 at 05:18 PM about the 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my Mercedes E320 to have it smog checked for registration. The tech
says it wont pass because the check engine light does not come on. I took the
car to have it hooked up to a check engine light machine. There is not a single
registering problem. Is there a fuse or a bulb that I need to change to make
the check engine light appear? What can I do?

Yes there are bulbs in the instrument cluster. You can remove the cluster to change bulbs if that is the issue. There are removal tools available to do so or you can bend some wires in the shape of a hook if that's not in the budget. Good Luck!

Check fuses, bulbs rarely burn out. The light should turn on with the ignition switch.
