sounds like your trany has sliped or is damaged. this will be a very costly fix since the transmission will need to be removed. your looking at any where from 1000-2000$ worth of work at a garage. you can do it your self if you have the tools to do so but it will be more time consuming then its worth. easiest thing you could do is find anouther old malibu for sale cheap and drive that one and use the old one for parts or just sell it at the scrap yard in march when scrap is the higest. or you can part it out threw kijiji

and on a side note try checking the trany fluid and for any trany leaks as it could also jsut be a bad linkage or low fluid. so crawl under it and look for the trany linkage cable and see if the cable is either broken or free

There is no place to check the fluid and I really don't know where to look. This had to happen on the coldest day of the year.

well that is because its a completely sealed unit so you will have to jack the car up and get it level. then get under the car and remove the trany plug. you will need the car to be running and warmed up before you pull the plug or the fluid will just spew out. be sure to leave the car in park doing this. when you got the plug out the trany fluid should be level with the plug hole if you can't feel any fluid in there means you are out and need to refill it. so unless you got a warm garage to do this in you may have to take it to a shop to have it checked. hopefully this is the problem and will fix it. try looking for leaks first as it would mean you defiantly have a low fluid level and saves you the time of having to check the level height

this image should help you find the right plug to check it not positive its the same trany but it should be on the passanger side of the car

Thank you so much. It is in the shop now so just waiting to hear what's up with it. Thank again for your help.

Hi SinfulCin, did you get that fixed? I'm having the same issue with my Camaro. What was the fix to yours? So that I may know what to expect Possibly.
