the key on my 2002 clk will not turn in ignition at all the plastic cover on the buttons is missing and had same problem once when it got wet however this time key is dry and battery on car has full charge was supposed to be taking fit bird out in it tonight so need answer to my problem urgently

Do you have a spare key? Try it and if it works, get a new one that does not have the plastic covering missing. Perhaps what is missing is part of what is necessary to allow the ignition to turn. Sorry about the delayed answer, I was out hanging trees on the house.
