can mass airflow sensor and throttle body die at the same time

My c240 was losing power while driving. I will have to release the pedal as if its losing air and it will pick up on its own again. also after the engine is really hot i will have to wait for it to cool as it will not move but only idle. i will have to let it cool down then i can drive it. i took it to Mercedes and they said its the mass airflow sensor and now they are saying the throttle body needs to be replaced also. i dont have the error code but my worry is that its like a trial and error and throttle body is not cheap. Initially they said stop plug which they replace and the problem resurface within 140km of driving
