If you think it is the fuel pump; check the fuse for the fuel pump to make sure it is not blown. If there is energy to the fuel pump and thee fuel pump is working, I would recommend replacing the fuel filter as it may be plugged and that could be why you are not getting fuel to the engine.

thanx for the answer but if the fuse was blown then why would it pass fuel when the tank was full there is no pressure when the guage shows 1/2 tank fuel i think js08016 may be right ill open the fuel pump and see it

could be gas cap not venting properly, that explains why it is good until you reach 1\2 tank

i hade the same problem.there is a switch betwen the two tanks ,it must be replaced by a new one,to let the fuel on the other tank pass into the fuel pump.& every tank has a gauge, which that mean you have 2 gauges & 2 tanks & a switch to combine the fuel in the two tanks.you must replace the switch by another one new.

check your fuse if it is burnt the fuel pump is going out to much ressitance then check the fuel pump relay .it is cheap replace the relay it could be getting hot and they fail when hot .most cars only have one tank.if you have a check engine go to autozone and have the read the code for you free that will lead you to the problem

Many Mercedes have an auxiliary fuel pump in the gas tank. It is there to pump gas, especially when going up and down hills, when the fuel level in the gas tank is low. This is most likely the issue. Hope this helps!

The C-class has a fuel tank with a raised center to clear the driveshaft, and only has a pump on the right side of the tank. This means it needs a siphoning tube in the sending unit that's in the left side of the tank to carry fuel to the right side where the pump is. If this tube, or either of the lines going to or from it are blocked, or cracked, the fuel in the left side of the tank will stay there as the right side depletes, and you will have fuel starvation even though you have half of a tank. Remove the left sending unit, disassemble the siphoning tube, and clean all the parts, or replace if broken. Once reassembled, you should be able to get your whole tank's worth.

Stop all the arse fiddeling, just replace the fuel pump, your existing pump could seem like its ok, but only has just about enough pressure to operate when the fuel levels are higher, when it gets to a lower level, the pump cannot function because it does not have the pumping pressure it requires anymore to lift the fuel and send it out. I had this same issue, changed my pump and all is well like new again.

My answer is actually a question as well. C180 (W202 engine) was starting but running rough , with no power . Replaced plugs, leads and coil packs. No change. Disconnected MAFF meter plug, and the car ran like new. Replaced pump and filter. Will not start. Replaced MAFF meter. Still will not start. Just under a quarter of a tank. Pump and filter all fitted correctly. Should I add more fuel, or prime the new pump ?
