You have to know the code number. Either borrow or buy a OBD (On Board Diagnostic). The readers plug in under your dashboard by the driver's side. You can get a cheap one at Amazon, then download the app that goes with it. They run both on wireless or Bluetooth or both. I have the Foseal OBDII. It was about $13 or so, and it works great. It doesn't tell you WHAT the code means, but you just look it up online, like right here. It's a great gadget to have for auto DIY folks. Good luck.
