2000 cavalier. AC works when vehicle is moving. When idling, it starts and stops and does not provide cool air. This has been going on for quite a few years

It sounds as if you have a leak in the system and it is short on the charge. Go to Auto Zone and purchase the A/C Pro the one with the gauge on it and following the instructions and there is also a video on how to charge the system. Also clean the condenser, its in front of the car, use a good heavy duty cleaner and flush with a garden hose.
