Where do I tap starter with hammer to make it jump start

When I try to start car it makes just
humming noise it doesn't make clicking
noise or any noise to indicate it's turning
over what part of starter do I hit to make it
start

The side of the main body. Be careful of the electrical connections.

The humming noise you hear is the starter armature rotating in the starter housing, but what is happening is the starter drive is not engaging. I doubt tapping on the starter will help in this situation. Replace the starter.
