I have a 2000 Cavalier 2.2L 3 speed tranny I believe….I was driving down the highway at 65-70 mph and all of a sudden i heard a loud noise and the car spudderd! Loosing power and loosing speed. I eventually got down to around 30-40 mph which i could maintain, but it wouldn't go any faster!if it got over 40 mph it would sputter and act like a rev limiter is kicking it!I got it home and it will idle fine but you rev it up it sputters in any gear, including neutral! So I am thinking my engine is fine , but I think i burned up my torque converter? Any ideas????

Possibly something came apart in the exhaust. Have someone Rev it up and see how much pressure comes out the tail pipe with your hand. It should blow your hand back when you push the gas pedal to the floor.

And what happens if it doesn't? Just wanting to know all possibilities before I take my tranny out!

If it doesn't the exhaust is plugged and either the converter needs replaced or converter and muffler depending on how far in the exhaust it has gone.

Ok well I just did some work on the Catalytic converter, runs fine now! HOWEVER,……. when coming to a stop it likes to act like its gonna stall! Has only stalled once so far! This was starting to do this before I even worked on the cat. Any ideas???
