Why is my 2000 Chevy Blazer losing power when I press the gas?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Chevy Blazer which has about 175,000 miles on it loses power,
sputters, and tries to die especially on hills, when pressing the gas pedal. It
recently kept dying and my father came to the conclusion it was the fuel
pump and replaced it. I'm unsure if he replaced the filter along with the
pump. After he replaced the fuel pump, it ran fine for about two weeks.
Then driving home about 2 miles away, it started to putter at 40 mph /
~2500 RPM. After a few second of puttering, I started losing RPMs and
slowing down. By about 1 mile away, I was pretty much idling in drive the
whole way home. Any time I tried to give it gas, it would sputter. The more
I pressed the gas, the more it sputtered and tried to die. It stalls and dies if
you give it too much gas. When it stalls, it usually starts right up again but
has a little trouble staying on until I've given it a few minutes in idle. Car
sounds a little rough in idle, but always has. Brought it to a garage
yesterday about 3 miles from home, and the CEL came on about halfway
there. Downhill is smooth, but as soon as I press the gas pedal, the
sputtering and stalling starts. Can't get it above 10 mph without it dying.
Can someone let me know if this is a simple fix like a spark plug or fuel
filter? I'm trying to figure out if the cost of repairs is worth keeping it.

Try some general maintenance things first check air filter clean throttle body replace fuel filter if it was not done when pump was replaced add Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner to gas tank.

Its called a vapor lock. Look up blazer vapor lock issues. The fuel line is too close to the engine (ours was touching) the gas vaporizes before it has a chance to get to get engine. We got some thermal heat sleeves and its solved for us.
