Do I have to put shims on the starter of my
2000 Chevy Blazer and if so how many are
what size

You start putting in shims if there is a problem with the starter gear meshing with the ring gear. If replacing the old starter, and there are shims installed, put back the same shims that came out. If there are no shims when removing the starter, then no shims should need to go back in.
