how to locate thermostat for replacement

The thermostat is usally close to the head. Follow the upper rad hose and it should be at the end of that hose. 2 or 3 bolts and it will come off

yes, the alternator will have to be removed, it will make the job alot easier! when alternator is removed behind it, on top of the engine (on the intake manfold you will see a large hose (coolant line) clamped onto a black housing that is round at the base and has a thinner neck. remove the two bolts holding it on, i think they are a 10 mm i dont remember... et voila! the thermostat is exposed, remove, clean any visible gunk off hole, place new thermostat in and repeat steps in reverse. total time ... about 15-20 min hope this helps
