Why am i losing power when towing?

Asked by Billy Jul 29, 2015 at 10:20 PM about the 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 ST Quad Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram diesel Cummings with 154,000 miles. Lately if I try and tow my 28ft travel trailer it loses power. At first it was only when I went up hills but now it happens on flat roads. The other day it started blowing black smoke while I was towing also. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I checked with parts store, you're close. My mechanic charged 35 for the filter and 60 to install. I think I'll try to install it with the help of a u-tube video. I also bought a bottle of injector cleaner. Thanks again.
