How do I disengage 4 wheel drive from 4H to 2H with 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.L?

Question type: General

I was driving and put back into 2H at a gas station
and as I turned it still felt like it was on (roads
weren't dry either). I went into reverse a little and I
think I heard a click and it ended up disengaged
after that. I didn't think this truck had to have it
disengaged that way.

It could be the transfer case shift motor is getting bad, they do that if just left to sit all the time, you need to run the 4WD drive at least once month to keep it all functioning,
