Tranny problems shifting.

Asked by Carol Mar 27, 2022 at 12:59 PM about the 1994 Dodge RAM 2500 Laramie SLT LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our old 94 auto Ram had the tranny rebuilt 2 years ago and the guy won't
honor his 3 year warranty.  The shop says the fluids are good and looks like the
clutches are slipping. Can we still drive it if we shift it manually?

If you have your paperwork proving the 3 year warranty take them to court. Sounds like they don't want to be bothered with a 28 year old vehicle. But that's too bad, they gave you the warranty and they need to honor it! I wouldn't continue driving it because the shop can claim "abuse" or "negligence" on your part as an excuse to deny you the warranty claim! Hope that helps! Jim

I had a similar situation with my 2006 Mercury and its ECM. The shop I used to replace it had a 1 year warranty on parts they replaced. I spoke to them, wrote a letter stating my dissatisfaction, and, finally, wrote a second letter indicating I would take them to court if they did not honor their written warranty. It was scheduled and repaired within a week. Moral: know your rights and make them conform with clear communication.

Do not drive it until you can get the shop to stand by the warranty as it can come back on you. Call the BBB and the DA in your area to put some pressure on them.
