Heating issue

I have a 2006 dodge RAM 1500 with a 5.7 l hemi . It
has 135k on it. When I bought it from my brother in
law in Oct 2015 it had a bad thermostat. I changed
it and it ran fine for a year then started back with
having heat issues again. What would cause a
thermostat to go bad again so quickly. Is it a truck
issue or a faulty part issue?

Thermostats seldom go bad. Are you sure it is the thermostat? What do you mean by "heating issues"? Are you referring to the heater in the cab or overheating of the engine?

The heat sometimes doesn't work and the temp gauge was spiked all the way up for a minute the went back down to normal
Is it losing coolant? You could try another thermostat and I would recommend getting it from your local Dodge dealership's parts department. Some of the aftermarket stuff is not 100% compatible with today's vehicles. If it is losing coolant and not leaking onto the ground then I would consider doing a combustion gas check on the coolant to see if it may be a head gasket issue.

The over flow tank for the coolant is a lil low, but the radiator is full... No evidence of oil in radiator or overflow
Oil in the coolant or coolant in the engine oil does not always occur when there is an issue with the head gaskets. If you are not losing coolant, that is a good thing. Replace the thermostat with a quality Mopar one and see what happens.
