Replaced thermostat, 2 Questions

Replacing the thermostat, I was
wondering should I always use new
antifreeze, and the other question is
got in the red a couple times, very
hot,  while driving to a safe spot to
get it towed. So should the oil be
changed also since I had to drive a
short while with it getting very hot
but it never streamed out but the got
all the away over in the red parton
the temperature gauge.

It would be a good idea to put new coolant (antifreeze) in the system, unless it was changed recently. A good, clean oil will not suffer much under high temperature but, for peace of mind, I would change oil and filter as well.
