Dodge Ram 1500 Intermittent Warm Start Issue

Asked by Whitebeast01 Mar 10, 2021 at 09:58 AM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.7L; I’ve been
experiencing intermittent warm start issues.  After
letting the vehicle sit for 15-30 minutes, it will crank
without any combustion. The only way to get it to
start is to open the throttle 50%. The vehicle starts
just fine when it’s cold. This warm restart issue only
occurs after reaching full operating temperature
and letting the vehicle sit. The vehicle restarts just
fine right after turning it off.

I’ve tried fuel cleaner additive, different grades of
fuel and smoke tested for vacuum leaks.

Any ideas?

You most likely have an exhaust leak somewhere close to your starter which has caused your starter to get hot. Fix exhaust leak and replace starter
