The insurance company is saying I just need a new engine they don't want to total my truck

I would say it is possible but would likely be a lot of work. If you attempt that be sure and get the computer and wiring harness for the new engine. In fact get a complete engine with all the accessories and the transmission. If you can get a complete wrecked truck with the engine that will be even better.

Your insurance will not pay to swap engines or do an upgrade so keep that in mind.
