My 2003 dodge ram 1500 4.7L V8 engine started knocking yesterday afternoon out of no where. Any ideas what it could me? I've been told it's the connecting rod but I'm not sure.

yes, things can break suddenly- how often do you check the oil?

I don't change it/check it as refit ally as I should but I do do it. If it is my connecting rod is it hard to replace and do you know where it's located at?

oh my- you don't know that bad engine bearings can mean an engine rebuild? when the rod/crank bearings wear the rods can "knock" around inside your engine- like I said, not hearing the noise, I can only hope that it is something easier to fix- this is the reason people are always changing their oil and checking it so it doesn't get low- good luck-

the 4.7 have a bad batch of wrist pins that are soft and wear out. take engine apart and replace the piston pins and you will find an 1/8 of wear on them. replace the pins and complain to chrysler, they know about the soft pins. so depending on mileage, it sounds like you could include a valve job, rebearing and piston rering along with the pins you will have a like new engine. but the 4.7 has a huge rep for piston pins going bad by 45 thou. once replaced the engine is good.
