Dodge Ram 1500 Swap

Asked by Roxanne Jan 17, 2018 at 01:46 PM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 slt sb.  About a year ago
the trans went out, I purchase new gears and tore
the old trans apart but when I did that I noticed the
pumpkin didn't look all that great so I started
looking for a new pumpkin to put the new gears in.
I've been really unsuccessful in finding one. New
idea is... Purchase a wrecked or blown motor 1500
and swap rear ends. Will a 94 or 96 bolt up in my
02? Please help I don't want another vehicle sitting
around because I was wrong in thinking it would
work... thanks

If you look at any Dodge spec sheet online, they'll tell you what type your pick up came with. I believe yours is the last year that the 2nd gen build was used...depending upon the manufacture date. 3rd gen also began that year. If yours is still 2nd gen, then I think you still have the Chrysler 9.25...if so, then you should be able to use any 94-early 02 Dodge rear axle. 9.25 is getting harder to find, therefore the price is goin' up...good luck.
