What would cause the truck to not start immediately after turning off the engine, but if I wait 20-30 mins the truck will start right up.

Asked by Wolfman10187 Feb 03, 2015 at 08:26 PM about the 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9L. I have to turn the key to prime the engine, turn
key off, then turn all the way to start. I drive the truck around, park and shut it off. Go to
start it not even 5 mins later and it won't fire. Wait 20-30 mins and do the same initial
process and it fires.  Would could be the issue? I also had the codes pulled and they
make absolutely no sense.

As an update I replaced the fuel pump but the same thing still happens. The only code that I am getting now is P0340 which I believe is a sensor. So if there are other suggestions please let me know
