Have you got like a jillion miles on this? have you put new hypoid oil in there recently? are there shims that you can put in aside each bearing to reduce the axial play?

....well you owner's manual will call for "gear oil" used to be "hypoid gear oil" which is designed for these applications....used to be....also the shims either side of the bearing were there on all the differentials I've worked on---must probably have them, especially if the gear assembly has any hint of axial play (back and forth movement)~ not sure what you're using for gear lube if not 80w-90 hypoid gear oil--?
