Want to go Pre-Computer Engine R&R

I'm wanting to remove and replace engine on my 1999 Dodge Ram Van 1500
(current 5.2L) ... I am having computer issues but want to keep van. I will
change trans too w engine... How far back (1990's ?)  year engine & trans will I
have to go for installing a non-computer engine in this 99' van?? Can this be
done with, say, a re-manu 1970's 318 long block and matching trans?
