How do I tell if my timing chain broke without taking the motor apart

The only real way of telling this is to remove the timing chain cover but in order to do so u need to remove the water pump and fan plus harmonic balencer

You could look down the oil filler hole and watch a rocker arm to see if it is moving. Or if there is a distributor on it, take the cap off and see if the rotor moves, this is all done by cranking or rotating the engine.

On my 98 dodge ram I drove it all day .it sat about and hr .I went back out to run to the store. And here a pop an all it would do is turn an turn ..no start.at all.

I have 03 1500 dodge ram 4.7 v8 having trouble starting. Replaced cam sensor, crankshaft sensor ,spark plugs. , check the fuel pressure and injectors was good and coil packs have spark and good, checked all fuses and relays, check the grounds. did replace ignition switch top leads were burnt. Ran a scanner on it no codes. How do you check if the timing is off without taking the engine apart any other ideas
