noise in the rear end

Asked by Jason Jul 05, 2013 at 06:24 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 ST LB RWD

Question type: General

I have a 1998 dodge ram 2wd and there is what i would call a dry sound coming out of the
rear end.The mechanic said the seal was gone ,wondering if the sound could just be that
the bearing is gone or do you think that the rear end is shot.

Jason more than likely you have a pinion bearing out, does it change with accel or decel? if pinion seal is leaking the pinion nut could be loose in turn would have more than likely wiped out the bearing, hope this helps
