Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I bought my truck I noticed a shifting problem when I went on the highway. Truck
would constantly be shifting gears over 50 mph, down shifting into passing gear and
back up to overdrive. Here is where things got weird. I over heated one day while on
the rode. I diagnosed it as a frozen thermostat. tools in hand I remove the thermostat
on the spot with the help of red gasket sealer and a gallon of spring water and I'm off.
For the following week, intending to replace the thermostat I realize my transmission
problem has completely disappeared. Transmission is shifting like a dream, Really. I
live in New England and it is October so its getting cold. I put a thermostat back in to
get heat, because without it the temperature needle does budge.Got heat and shifting
problem is back just like before. Coincidence,? I think not. I'm going to take the
thermostat out Sunday 10/19/14 to see what happens. If anyone knows what one thing
has to do with the other to cause this PLEASE Please let me know. Thanks for reading.
