Dodge tranny's

I have a 96 Dodge ram 1500 ext cab, long bed 4x4
with a 318 5.2 ltr. What type of tranny do I need?
And how to install the over drive unit to the tranny?

Look under your hood or on the radiator support and you might find the build sheet decal that states what transmission is in the truck....most likely a 46 RE but not positive

If you are experiencing the overdrive unit, not quite going back on issue, the unit has to be dissembled, there is a one way sprag that has to be aligned to slide back into the main shaft on transmission. When I build one of these, I have an old main shaft that I've cut off. After reassembly of unit, I pull the shaft out. BEWARE... if you try to tear unit apart, there is a spring inside that has 800 ft lbs of load on it. Ya..., 800 lbs. you have to use a press during disassembly and assembly. Use care. Danger zone.....
